செம்மார்புக் குக்குறுவான் - Coppersmith barbet - Psilopogon haemacephalus
செம்மார்புக் குக்குறுவான் அல்லது கன்னான் அல்லது திட்டுவான் குருவி என்பது ஒருவகை குக்குறுவான் பறவையாகும். இப்பறவை இந்தியத் துணைக் கண்டத்திலும் தென்கிழக்காசியாவின் சில பகுதிகளிலும் காணப்படுகிறது. இப்பறவை கனத்த அலகுடனும், இலைப் பச்சை நிறத்துடனும், சிவந்த மார்பு, முன்தலைக் கொண்டும், மஞ்சள் கழுத்துடன், குட்டையான வாலுடன் இருக்கும். இப்பறவை ஆல், அரசு, அத்தி மரப் பழங்களை விரும்பி உண்ணும். ஈசல் போன்ற பூச்சிகளையும் உண்ணும். இப்பறவை வாழும் பகுதிக்கு ஏதாவது தீங்கு வந்தால் விநோத ஒலி எழுப்பும் தன்மை கொண்டது. இதனாலேயே பளியர் என்ற பழங்குடி மக்கள் இப்பறவையை திட்டுவான் குருவி என்று அழைப்பார்கள். The coppersmith barbet (Psilopogon haemacephalus), also called crimson-breasted barbet and coppersmith, is an Asian barbet with crimson forehead and throat, known for its metronomic call that sounds similar to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer. It is a resident bird in the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. It carves out holes inside a tree to build its nest. It is predominantly frugivorous, but has been observed eating insects, especially winged termites. The coppersmith barbet lives solitary or in small groups; larger parties have occasionally been sighted in abundantly fruiting Ficus trees. It appears to be fond of sunning in the morning on bare top branches of tall trees, often flitting about to sit next to each other. Its flight is straight, with rapid flaps. The coppersmith barbet prefers banyan, peepul, and other wild figs, various drupes and berries, and the occasional insect, caught in aerial sallies. It also feeds on flower petals. It eats nearly 1.5 to nearly 3 times its own body weight in berries each day.
